Chippy Tea | Julie Taylor | Scrapbook Layout

There’s nothing quite like a traditional seaside chippy tea to round off a fun day at the beach! For this layout, I wanted to capture that simple pleasure of grabbing a packet of hot chips and enjoying them straight from the paper while watching the waves and listening to the seagulls.

I began by creating a mixed media background using the Fox Cut Stencil #48 Clouds. This clever stencil has cloud-shaped edges, allowing you to move it around the page while blending inks to build up a soft, repeating cloud pattern. I chose ink colours that coordinated with my patterned papers before lightly sprinkling the background with water. This oxidised the inks beautifully, creating a soft, mottled effect that adds depth and texture while perfectly reflecting the relaxed seaside atmosphere.

My three photographs are arranged vertically down the centre of the page, creating a strong focal point and allowing the story to unfold naturally. To add interest and dimension, I created three embellishment clusters using shards of patterned paper layered behind and around the photos. I tucked in a selection of ephemera pieces to enhance each cluster without overwhelming the design.

The title, Chippy Tea, is positioned between the second and third photographs, slightly over to the right, where it balances the page while drawing attention to the story behind the photos. To complete the beach theme, I added a couple of perspective embellishments, including a seagull and a bucket and spade. These finishing touches help bring the seaside scene to life and reinforce the carefree feeling of a day spent by the coast.

This layout is a celebration of happy memories, sandy toes, salty air, and, of course, the timeless tradition of enjoying fish and chips at the seaside.
