Japan Scrapbook Layout - Spectacles Bridge - Nagasaki -Wendy Meffan

I had great fun putting together this Japanese-inspired Spectacles Bridge scrapbook page, combining my photos with the latest Bramble Fox  Japan Perspextives. The Koi fish and Japanese symbols were just perfect for this layout.

The Japanese papers were the perfect starting point for the layout. Their patterns and colours worked beautifully with the photographs and gave the page an authentic Japanese feel. Koi carp are also a lovely motif to use for a Japan-themed page, with the fish traditionally associated with qualities such as strength, courage and determination.

I arranged my six photos in a simple block design, with four photos across the top and two underneath. This gave me plenty of photographs while still leaving enough space around them for the embellishments and patterned papers to shine.

One of my favourite details was the koi carp on the Japanese paper. Rather than simply cutting the fish out completely, I fussy cut partially around the carp, leaving part of it connected to the paper. I then lifted the cut section with foam pads, creating a little extra dimension. I love this technique because it makes the carp appear to swim out from the page.

I added a koi carp woven patch as another layer of texture. The woven material contrasts nicely with the smooth papers and acrylic embellishments, giving the page a more tactile feel.

The Bramble Fox Perspextives were the perfect finishing touches. I love using Perspextives on layouts because they add dimension without overwhelming the photographs.

To complete the Japanese theme, I added the Japan title and placing Kanji perspextives meaning 'Japan' in the bottom-right corner. This small cluster helps balance the page and draws the eye around the whole layout.

I particularly like how the embellishments don't just decorate the page—they help reinforce the story and location behind the photographs. The combination of Japanese papers, koi imagery, woven texture, acrylic Perspextives and the Japan title all work together to create a page that feels colourful, dimensional and full of character.

The finished layout has a lovely mix of photographs, pattern, texture and dimension, with the raised koi carp providing one of my favourite details. Sometimes it's those small techniques, such as partially fussy-cutting an image and lifting it with foam pads, that make a scrapbook page feel really special.

I think the Japanese papers were the perfect choice for documenting our time at Spectacles Bridge, and I love how all the little details came together to tell the story of this memorable visit.
