Road Trip, a scrapbook layout documenting a short break up to the North East, by Paula Davis

Updated: Jul 22

A scrapbook page idea for documenting a holiday to the North East & Scottish Borders using the Road Trip title now in the shop.

There’s something so special about packing up the car, setting off with no rush, and enjoying the journey together. This scrapbook layout titled “Road Trip” documents one of our recent holidays exploring the beautiful northeast of England and into the stunning Scottish Borders.

Layering Techniques to add interest

To begin the layout i used Salvaged Pertina ink through stencil #140 creating the compass in the bottom right corner. To create visual interest and depth a variety of papers and embellishments from Alchemy Hearts Out & About Collection are layered behind the photos.

From dramatic coastlines and rolling countryside to charming villages and scenic drives, every part of this trip felt like an adventure. I wanted this layout to capture not only the places we visited, but also the feeling of freedom and togetherness that comes with a family road trip.

Building Balanced embellishment clusters

To further enhance the layout, tags, tickets and word strips were tucked into the papers. i then added little perspective and wood travel items into the clusters and added the title perspective 'Road Trip' to finish.

Scrapbooking Inspiration

For the design, I used travel-inspired papers, layered maps, ticket details, and earthy colours to reflect the landscapes we explored along the way. The photos tell the story perfectly — winding roads, beautiful views, cosy stops, and those little everyday moments that become the best memories when you’re travelling together.

To finish the page, I added journaling about the places we visited. Sometimes the best part of a holiday isn’t just the destination, but all the moments in between.

This “Road Trip” layout is a reminder of how much joy can come from simply exploring together and making time for adventure as a family. These are the memories I know we’ll look back on for years to come.

Why this layout works

  • Uses layering to create depth.

  • Balances embellishments for visual harmony

  • Uses the title to reinforce the story

  • The photos tell the story of the places visited

Thank you so much for visiting today. I hope this layout inspires you to document your own travels and preserve the stories behind every adventure, near or far.
