Giggles & Gossip, scrapbook layout | Julie Taylor

When I saw the Perspextive title Giggles & Gossip, I knew I could have gone in lots of different directions with it, but I had these fun photos of my daughter enjoying a night out and laughing with her friend. They were absolutely perfect for this title and captured one of those lovely moments you just want to preserve in your scrapbook!
The only problem was the colours in the photos – red and black! I didn’t have any red scrapbook papers with me, so I decided to get creative and build my page using mixed media and embellishments instead. Sometimes it’s good to step outside your comfort zone and make your own background to complement your photos.

I started with some white cardstock and stamped the word Fun across the background using a combination of red and black ink. This gave me a great starting point and helped bring those colours from the photos onto the page. With my background ready, I could start building my composition, layering up my photos and adding all my little bits and pieces around them. I angled one of the photos to add a little movement and keep the layout feeling playful, while the other photo helped balance the overall design. I tucked my embellishments in around the photos, mixing everything together to create a lovely cluster of details without taking attention away from those fun moments.

The Giggles & Gossip Perspextive title fitted perfectly to the right of the bottom photo, sitting just below the top one. I love how it fills that space and ties the whole story together!

To finish, I mounted the entire layout onto black cardstock, which really makes the red and black details pop against the white background. I also added some machine stitching for extra texture and interest.
I’m really pleased with how this page came together, especially as I had to improvise without the patterned papers I originally wanted. It just goes to show that a little mixed media and a few well-chosen embellishments can make all the difference!!
Thanks for joining me today.
Until next time,
