There’s something so special about documenting those carefree outdoor moments, and this layout was the perfect way to showcase these fun tree-climbing photos. The combination of oranges, greens, and blues was inspired by the colours in the photos and helped create a fresh, playful feel that perfectly reflects a day spent enjoying nature.

To begin, I created some interest on the background by adding ink through Stencil #113 Distressed Grid over on the left-hand side of the page. This subtle mixed media layer adds texture and depth without overwhelming the design. Next, I adhered several vertical patterned paper strips just off centre, creating two distinct areas to work with across the layout.

On the right side of the strips, I cut wedges from a selection of patterned papers and arranged them into a sunburst design radiating outward from the vertical strips. This fun feature draws the eye across the page and adds movement and energy to the overall design. To enhance the texture even further, I layered some twine over the sunburst section, bringing an extra tactile element to the page.

For the focal point, I placed my two photos to the left of the vertical strips, positioning them one above the other. This simple arrangement keeps the attention on the photos while balancing the busy patterns on the opposite side of the layout.

To finish, I embellished around the photos with coordinating pieces that complement the colour palette and outdoor theme. The title, “Enjoying Life,” was added across the top of the lower photo and extends slightly over to the right, helping to connect both sections of the design together.

I love how this layout captures the fun and adventure of the day while highlighting those happy childhood moments spent outdoors.
