Scrapbook layout of the first day at Secondary School

1. A Very Special First Day

There are some photographs that instantly capture a moment in time, and Alannah’s first day at secondary school is definitely one of them. This scrapbook layout documents a huge milestone as she takes her first steps into a new chapter, dressed proudly in her school uniform and ready to begin her secondary school journey.

I wanted the layout to feel happy, fresh and full of excitement, while still keeping the photograph as the main focus. The “My First Day” Bramble Fox perspective, https://www.bramblefox.co.uk/new-products, makes  is the perfect statement title, instantly telling the story of this special school milestone. I also added the “Ready to Learn” perspective from Bramble Fox https://www.bramblefox.co.uk/new-products, which fits the theme perfectly and adds another fun layer to the page.

2. A Soft and Happy Colour Palette

For this layout, I chose a pretty combination of soft pink, sage green, olive, mustard yellow, peach and natural cream tones. The colours work beautifully together and create a warm, cheerful feel without overpowering the photograph.

The papers are from Carta Bella and Simple Stories, and I love how their colours complement Alannah’s burgundy school blazer. The pink and green patterned papers provide a lovely contrast against the blue door in the photograph, while the mustard and peach tones bring warmth to the embellishment clusters.

Keeping the background relatively light also gives the whole page plenty of white space, allowing the photograph and colourful embellishments to really stand out.

3. Layers, Texture & Dimension

One of my favourite techniques on this scrapbook page is layering. I used several torn and patterned paper pieces behind the photograph, creating a layered mat that adds interest and texture while helping the photograph stand out from the background.

I also used a large tag behind the photo, which adds another dimension to the design and gives the page a lovely handmade feel. The torn paper edges soften the geometric patterns and stop the layout from looking too structured.

The floral embellishments were layered around the photograph in two main clusters. This creates a visual triangle across the page and helps draw the eye around the design. I also added a few delicate thread loops behind the top floral cluster, giving the layout movement and another subtle layer of texture.

4. Bramble Fox Details

The Bramble Fox pieces really bring the story of this layout together. The large “My First Day” perspective is the perfect finishing touch and makes a strong statement alongside the photograph. I positioned it towards the bottom right of the page so it balances the floral cluster on the opposite side.

At the top, the “Ready to Learn” perspective reinforces the school theme and adds a fun dimensional element. I love using Bramble Fox perspectives because they can be used as a focal point rather than simply an embellishment, and the different sizes and placements make it easy to create a layered scrapbook design.

Small details such as the “Dream Big” phrase and the “Best Day Ever” label add extra storytelling without taking attention away from the main photograph.

5. A New Chapter to Remember

This layout is all about capturing the excitement of a first day at secondary school and preserving those little moments that will become treasured memories. From the proud school uniform to the bright smile, this photograph tells the story of a girl ready to take on a brand-new adventure.

I love how the combination of Carta Bella and Simple Stories patterned papers, layered floral embellishments, torn paper, thread, and Bramble Fox perspectives has created a page that feels both colourful and feminine while still having plenty of impact.

Most importantly, this page isn't just about the first day of school – it's about the beginning of a new chapter. Alannah was ready to learn, ready to grow and ready to dream big. 💕📚
