Thankful for This: A Colorful Camera-Themed Scrapbook Layout | Debbi Tehrani

Bright colors, playful arrows, and a beautiful Bramble Fox title were the perfect ingredients for this scrapbook layout celebrating gratitude. I built the design around the “thankful for this” Perspextive from the cheerful April Fox Box, adding coordinating arrows, Paper Snips, and the whimsical stencil to create a layered and playful page. The Simple Stories Take Note collection was a perfect match for the bright, happy colors in the kit and helped bring the whole design together.

I scrapbook in an 8×8 format, so many embellishments appear slightly larger on my pages — something that really helps highlight all those lovely details.

A Sweet Title & Whimsical Background

One of the first things that caught my eye was the beautiful “thankful for this” title in that soft cantaloupe color — it’s such a unique shade and the mix of fonts is just delightful.

I began by creating a colorful background using the sweet and whimsical stencil from Fox Box Plus, softly brushing several coordinating ink colors through the design. After that, I splattered some aqua ink and stamped a few subtle phrases for extra texture.

To start building the composition, I tore a piece of aqua polka dot paper and adhered it to two corners of the page, creating a fun frame for the layout. 💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: When using a stencil for your background, try blending two or three coordinating ink colors instead of just one. This adds depth and movement to the design while keeping the background soft enough that your photos and embellishments still stand out.

Balancing the Page with Photos & Arrows

Here’s the bottom-left section of my layout. I used two matching orange arrow Perspextives to draw the eye toward the photos while also balancing the large title in the opposite corner.

The Paper Snips sheet in the Fox Box Plus includes three colorful camera icons, which worked perfectly with the small snapshots I printed. I outlined the cameras with a pen to enhance the hand-drawn look of the Paper Snips and help them stand out against the background. Together with the title in the opposite corner, these elements help form a loose visual triangle, which keeps the viewer’s eye moving naturally around the page. 💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Use directional embellishments like arrows to guide the viewer’s eye around your page. Placing arrows that point toward your photos helps create visual flow and keeps attention on the most important parts of your layout. 💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Try arranging embellishments in a visual triangle to help your layout feel balanced and cohesive. On this page, the cameras and arrows form subtle triangle points around the photos, which naturally guides the viewer’s eye around the design while keeping the focus on the pictures.

Adding Dimension with Details

One of my favorite ways to bring paper embellishments to life is by adding tiny dimensional details.

I added brads to the camera lenses, which instantly gave them more interest and depth. On the pink camera at the top, I also tied a small piece of orange twine and added a tiny pink tassel to the side — such a fun little accent that makes the embellishment feel extra special. 💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Small dimensional details can make a big difference! Adding items like brads, twine, or tassels to embellishments gives them extra texture and helps your page feel more interactive, customized, and layered.

Playful Arrows & Banners

How sweet are these little arrows from the Paper Snips sheet? They add such a playful movement across the page and echo the arrows at the bottom.

The word strips are also from the Paper Snips sheet, and I trimmed the ends with my scissors to create a fishtail banner shape, which gives them a bit more personality and helps them flow nicely with the arrow elements. 💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: If you want word strips to feel more decorative, trim the ends into a fishtail banner shape. It’s a quick technique that instantly makes simple labels feel more playful and polished.

Fresh Eyes & Finishing Touches

I always love to share one of my favorite scrapbooking tips: let your layout sit overnight before calling it finished.

When I came back to this page the next day with fresh eyes, I realized it needed a bit more definition. I added outlining to the patterned paper behind the photos, around the enamel dots, and along the edges of the word strips. Those small details really helped pull everything together.

I also plan to add my journaling to the back of the layout, sharing thoughts about the many little everyday things in life with my husband that make me feel thankful. 💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: If you’re unsure whether your layout is finished, step away and come back the next day. Fresh eyes can help you notice small details — like outlining or extra accents — that can really pull a design together.

This layout is a sweet reminder that the little everyday moments — the smiles, the snapshots, the time spent together — are often the things we’re most thankful for.
