Colors of Fall: Creating a Beautiful Autumn Scrapbook Layout | Debbi Tehrani

This colorful autumn scrapbook layout brings together layers, texture, fussy-cut embellishments, and lots of gorgeous Bramble Fox details to capture the beauty of fall. I used several elements from the October Fox Box Plus, including the Colors of Fall title Perspextive, tree Perspextives, Paper Snips, and stencil, plus a matching heart Perspextive from my stash. In fact, everything on this layout except the cardstock, patterned paper, and metallic dots is from Bramble Fox! I love how easily all of these coordinated pieces came together to create a page that feels completely packed with autumn color and personality. I scrap in an 8 x 8 format, so you may notice that the Bramble Fox products look a bit larger on my layouts than they would on a 12 x 12 page—which means you get to see all those fabulous details up close!

A Show-Stopping Title

How fabulous is this Colors of Fall title Perspextive? Bramble Fox titles always have such interesting fonts and details, and I love the way this one becomes a major design element on the page. The title is surrounded by an explosion of autumn goodness, with the mushrooms, flowers, leaves, and word strips all coming from the Paper Snips in the October Fox Box Plus. I love how the different shapes and colors frame the title without overwhelming it, giving it that perfect "fall has arrived!" feeling.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: A large title doesn't always have to sit by itself. Try surrounding it with smaller embellishments that echo its colors and theme. It can turn your title into the focal point of an entire embellishment cluster.

Scraps, Stitching & Sweet Details

I started this layout by machine stitching three pieces of patterned paper from my scraps drawer onto the background. I chose scraps that picked up the colors in the Bramble Fox Paper Snips, which helped tie the whole page together right from the beginning. And how lovely are those sweet little trees from the Fox Box? The etching on them is gorgeous! I also couldn't resist adding that adorable fox from the Paper Snips. The little labels are from the Paper Snips, too, and I cut them in half so I'd have four pieces to work with, and tucked them behind the photos. Since I always add hearts to the layouts I give away, one of the labels was the perfect little spot to add my heart Perspextive.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Don't be afraid to cut your embellishments apart! Cutting labels, phrase strips, or other elements in half gives you more pieces to tuck into clusters and can make your embellishments much more versatile. 💡 Debbi’s Stash Smarts: I organize my Bramble Fox hearts by color in Ziploc baggies, so I can always find one that coordinates with the other Bramble Fox products I'm using. It makes it so easy to add that little heart detail without having to hunt through my stash!

From Stencil to Embellishment

Here's a closer look at the bottom-right cluster. I stenciled one of the leaves from the October Fox Box stencil onto white cardstock several times and then fussy-cut them to tuck into the clusters. I just love all the different motifs included on this stencil—mushrooms, leaves, and those tiny little dots! They give you so many possibilities for adding subtle handmade embellishments to your layouts. I layered the stenciled leaf with the Paper Snips pieces and patterned paper, creating a cluster with plenty of dimension and texture.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Stencils don't have to stay on the background! Try stenciling onto cardstock or patterned paper, cutting out individual shapes, and using them as embellishments. It's an easy way to stretch your stencil even further.

Echoes Across the Page

I added another cluster to the top left to balance the larger cluster on the right side of the page. I used shorter pieces of the patterned papers along with the other two trees that came in the Fox Box. I love how this cluster echoes the shapes and colors from the opposite side without being an exact copy. Repeating a few key elements while changing their size and arrangement is one of my favorite ways to make a layout feel cohesive without making it look too matchy-matchy.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: When you have one large embellishment cluster, look across the page and ask yourself where you need a little visual "weight" to balance it. A smaller cluster can be all you need to make the entire layout feel more intentional.

The Power of Three

I just love this interesting floral piece from the Paper Snips and had to include it on my layout! I think its unusual shape helps create a fabulous visual triangle, with the red pieces leading your eye down to the bottom right and bottom left of the page. You'll also notice that I added some of the tiny dots from the stencil. They almost look like little pieces of celebratory confetti—reminiscent of falling leaves—to me! Those tiny details may not seem important on their own, but they help repeat the colors and shapes throughout the page and add another layer of texture.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Look for one strong color or shape that you can repeat in three areas of your layout. Creating a visual triangle doesn't have to mean making three identical clusters—the repeated color, shape, or embellishment is enough to help guide your eye around the page.

More Than Just the Story

Here's a close-up of the journaling. Instead of simply writing something like "Here's my grand-niece frolicking across the yard," I used a lovely autumn quote about the way fall seems to save its most beautiful colors for one final grand finale. I love when journaling can add another layer of personality to a layout instead of simply stating what's happening in the photos. One of my favorite tips is to leave my layout overnight and look at it again the next day with fresh eyes. On this layout, I decided to add the matte gold dots for another bit of texture and some pretty shine. I think it's so important to have lots of texture on autumn layouts!

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Give your finished layout a little time before you call it done. Walking away overnight and looking at it with fresh eyes can make it much easier to spot those little finishing touches that will take your page from "almost there" to "finished."
