SUMMER ADVENTURES | MONIQUE LOWE

We are so delighted to have Monique Lowe as a guest designer this month. She has blown us away with her latest design with its amazing detail and stunning colours.

Monique explains more about her layout and process...

I recently spent a week staycationing with my family by the sea in Nairn, Scotland. We were so lucky to have gorgeous sunshine and lots of lovely beach adventures. This layout documents one of those days with a trio of seaside selfies and the fabulous ‘Summer Adventures’ title.

I started off creating a mixed media background using a selection of blue Shimmerz paints to mirror the beautiful sunny blue skies we got to enjoy. Once dry, I used ‘Fox Cut #6’ and iridescent texture paste to add a bit of shimmery detail to the sky. I added patches of stencilling quite randomly around the background – I wanted it to peak out from behind the sun rays I would add next!

Next I cut some sun rays and waves from beautiful summery patterned papers from the ‘Sunkissed’ collection by Simple Stories. I distressed all the edges and then positioned the sun rays in place on the background. I machine stitched down the centre of each ray and lifted the edges up for added dimension. Then I layered the waves below the rays of sunshine, using clear silicone glue for a bit of 3D effect, and added a touch of Nuvo Glimmer Paste to add a hint of shimmer.

Then to add my photos and embellish! I backed each photo with a soft aqua patterned paper and layered them side by side. I tucked some journaling in on the left and created three clusters of florals around my photos. A few word pieces and some Stickles sparkly glitter glue on the florals added a bit of extra interest. And last, but not definitely not least, I finished my seaside layout off with two sweet seagull perspextives, a few little hearts and the lovely ‘together’ and ‘today’ banner perspextives. The perfect finishing touches!
