Outdoor Adventures: A Layered Woodland Scrapbook Layout

Fresh air, forest trails, and good friends inspired this outdoor adventure scrapbook layout using brand new Bramble Fox Perspextives and wood elements. I created this page using the Outdoor Adventure title and Outdoor Elements, along with several other Bramble Fox products to bring the woodland theme to life. One thing to note is that I scrapbook in 8x8, so the products tend to look a little larger on my layouts—which I actually love because it really lets those beautiful Perspextives and wood elements shine!

Sunburst Background with a Rustic Twist

The first thing that catches the eye is the beautiful gray translucent Outdoor Adventures title, which combines two awesome fonts and already has an arrow built in—instantly adding a sense of movement and adventure to the page.

For my background, I started with the Distress Sunburst Fox Cut stencil #101, blending warm yellow tones to create a glowing backdrop reminiscent of sunlight filtering through the trees. After stenciling, I splattered watercolor paint in brown and forest green across the background before building my layout. Those splatters add a little bit of organic texture and reinforce the earthy woodland feel.

I mounted my photos on kraft paper and used some green patterned paper from my stash to ground them, tearing and inking the edges to give everything a more organic, outdoorsy look.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Tearing and inking paper edges is a simple way to soften straight lines and give layouts a more natural, textured look—perfect for nature-themed pages.

Building Woodland Clusters

One of my favorite elements from the Outdoor Elements pack are the super-cool hiker Woodies, which work perfectly for documenting a day on the trails.

To build my clusters, I fussy cut leaves, mushrooms, florals, and woodland critters from a paper in P13’s Into the Woods collection. The black Dymo-style word strips are from Vintage Sentiments Snips 055, which is a sheet I reach for again and again because it has over 100 generic phrases that work on so many different layouts.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: When creating embellishment clusters, try mixing and layering different textures—paper pieces, acrylic Perspextives, and wood elements—to add visual interest and depth.

Two Hikers, One Adventure

On the opposite side of the layout, I added the second hiker from the Outdoor Elements pack. I love how the natural wood tone stands out while still blending beautifully with the earthy colors of the papers and embellishments. This little detail helps balance the design while reinforcing the hiking theme.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Repeating similar elements across your page helps guide the viewer’s eye and creates visual balance.

Telling the Story

The journaling on this layout started in a fun way—I actually found a label online, screenshot it, and used it as the base for my journaling!

To help draw attention to the journaling, I added a white arrow from the Arrows Galore set, pointing right toward the story.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Arrows are a great way to guide the viewer’s eye toward important details like journaling or photos.

A Compass for Adventure

Every outdoor adventure layout needs a compass, right? This beautiful compass is also included in the Outdoor Elements pack, and it was perfect for anchoring this cluster.

I also tucked a little white heart from the Monochrome Hearts pack into this area. Whenever I create layouts that I plan to give away, I almost always add a small heart somewhere on the page—it feels like leaving a tiny piece of love behind.

The quote in the bookplate comes from Vintage Escapes Snips 076, and I added brown brads to give it some dimension so it resembles a real metal bookplate.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Adding small dimensional elements like brads is a great way to make flat embellishments feel more realistic and tactile.

Finishing Touches

When I looked at the layout, I felt like there was a little empty space above the journaling and beside the title. The beautiful etched pine trees from the Outdoor Elements pack were the perfect finishing touch.

To help them feel integrated into the design rather than floating on their own, I layered in some leaves and even added a sweet little field mouse nearby.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: If an embellishment feels like it’s “floating,” anchor it with a few smaller pieces like leaves, florals, or word strips.

Designing with Fresh Eyes

You know one of my favorite scrapbooking tips is to leave your layout overnight and come back to it the next day with fresh eyes.

When I did that with this page, I noticed the space at the top felt slightly larger than the space at the bottom. To fix that, I added a torn strip of green patterned paper across the top and embellished it with a few repeating elements from the other clusters. That simple change helped balance the page perfectly.

💡 Debbi’s Design Tip: Taking a break from your layout can help you spot spacing or balance issues you might miss while you’re in the middle of creating.
